Commission on Cancer Taskforce

Commission on Cancer Taskforce

 Background

Five hospital-based cancer programs in Vermont are accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).  These programs must meet various standards annually, including clinical and programmatic goals, prevention and screening projects, quality studies and quality improvement projects.

The goal of this newly formed workgroup is to examine how to share information and best practices across Vermont’s CoC facilities and to consider coordinating projects to maximize impact and help meet the Vermont Cancer Plan goals.

First steps

  • A survey was sent to the five CoC centers in Vermont to collect basic information regarding the projects they are undertaking to meet the aforementioned standards.
  • To date, two centers have responded to this survey.

Next Steps

  • Prompt the other three centers to complete the survey.
  • Share results with participating cancer centers.
  • Share results at VTAAC Annual Meeting in September.
  • VTAAC Steering Committee will develop recommendations for cancer center projects that will advance the State Cancer Plan and will communicate these to the cancer centers prior to January 2019.
